They cautioned her that they would not be able to continue in the party in the event of state division.

The Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy also reportedly made it clear to the Congress High Command that he could not be a party to state division, indicating that he would be constrained to quit.

Union minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and AICC general secretary incharge of state affairs, Digvijay Singh held discussions with the Chief Minister exclusively. It is learnt that even before they told him about state bifurcation, he told them that he would not be a party to it. Even when he had a brief meeting with the Congress president Sonia Gandhi, he told her not to divide the state. However, the PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana who also met the top leaders reportedly told them he would abide by the decision of the High Command.

Meanwhile, Seemandhra leaders told the Congress High Command that they would not be able to continue in the party if the state was divided. In a letter they sent to Sonia Gandhi, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, core committee members, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Digvijay Singh, they warned that the Seemandhra region would go up in flames if Telangana state was created.

They mentioned that three generations of the Nehru family has been keeping the unity of the Telugu people against all odds.

Earlier in their meeting at the AP Bhavan attended by union minister Kavri Sambasiva Rao, Chiranjeevi, J D Seelam, Pallamraj and state ministers, the Seemandhra leaders resolved to oppose state bifurcation by all means.

It is also learnt that the Chief Minister told the Seemandhra leaders that he had done all he could to stall state bifurcation and asked them to continue their own efforts.
