25% Of Population In Telangana Are Andhra Settlers

There is a sizeable presence of people from Seemandhra across all the 10 districts of Telangana. The estimates of Seemandhra "settlers" in Telangana region range between 20 and 30 per cent. The median figure works out to 25 per cent. The 10 districts of Telangana, including Hyderabad, account for a population of 3.52 crore. The number of "settlers" would be anywhere between 70 lakh to 105 lakh but a realistic figure would be 90 lakh.

Almost 50 per cent of these "settlers" are concentrated in [url="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/HMDA"]HMDA[/url] area and account for 45 per cent of the metropolitan population of one crore. Even with the bifurcation, the influx of people from Seemandhra and other parts of the country into Hyderabad is unlikely to come down.

HMDA area, comprising 7,228 sq kms, is expected to witness a boom in the next two decades with its population swelling from 1.8 crore to 2.2 crore. Where will bulk of the migrants come from? Such huge numbers from Telangana hinterland are impossible to come. So, Hyderabad will continue to act as a magnet for people from Seemandhra and other parts of India. What will be the safeguards available to all those who have made Hyderabad their home if a T-state is created?
