The pretty actress who has starred with top actors like [url="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Rajinikanth"]Rajinikanth[/url], [url="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Mammootty"]Mammootty[/url], Mohanlal, Vijayakanth, Prabhu and Karthik, was diagnosed with advanced stages of [url="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Cancer"]cancer[/url] in late January this year and was undergoing treatment in[u] Kerala[/u][/i]

Daughter of [u]popular yesteryear actress Devika[/u], best known for her pretty big eyes, reportedly has denied permission to visitors during her days ensuing her end. The hospital too denies visitation from anyone. The treatment has failed to ward off the illness and the actress now is in her final days of life. Since she has no dear one to take care of her, she has been moved to a facility to take care for cancer patients during their last days.

She has acted in more than 40 films in[u]Tamil [/u]and [u]Malayalam[/u]as leading lady and her last film was [i]Kusruthy [/i](2004) in Malayalam, and in Tamil her last appearance was [i]Simha Rasi([/i]1999).

On Tuesday, it was reported that Kanaka, who was undergoing treatment at the Palliative Care Hospital in Alappuzha, Kerala for cancer, died after the treatment failed to cure the disease.

Late in the evening, Kanaka called a press conference at her residence here to clarify rumours about her death.

"I`m not dead yet as I have been quoted by some media channels. I`m perfectly healthy. I don`t have cancer and neither have I had the scare! The last time I was in Kerala, it was in 1992 when I was shooting for a Malayalam film. I`m very much alive! These are nothing but speculations," Kanaka said.

She also said this was neither a publicity stunt.

"I don`t think anyone would fake their death, not even film stars. I have stayed away from cinema for personal reasons, but I`m likely to return soon. I have been getting offers, but I`m waiting for the perfect role," she said.

Kanaka, who rose to fame with 1989 Tamil blockbuster debut "Karakattakaran", is the daughter of yesteryear actress Devika.

Since her mother passed away in 2002, Kanaka has been away from filmdom.

In the Malayalam film industry, she worked with superstars like Mammootty and Mohanlal. In fact, Shaji Kailas` 2000 hit film "Narasimham" saw her sharing the screen space with the both of them.

Her other Malayalam films include "Vietnam Colony", "Golanthara Vartha" and "Pingami".

She is known for several hit films such as "Godfather", "Periya Kudumbam" and "Jallikattu Kalai".

Amidst reports doing rounds in film circuits that former heroine Kanaka Mahalakshmi, aka Kanaka succumbed to cancer at a hospital in Kerala, the actress herself has held a press meet to clarify.

Earlier it was reported that Kanaka is undergoing treatment for cancer at Palliative Care hospital in Alappuzha, Kerala and died after the treatment failed to cure her. However when the whole state of Andhra Pradesh is tense with Telangana news, Kanaka's death news too became headlines. But reacting on them, Kanaka, who is perfectly healthy and alive, called for a press meet saying 'I'm not dead yet'. The actress also stated that she is perfectly healthy and is having no cancer at all. 'I stayed away from cinema for personal reasons and will be returning to silver screen soon. Why would I fake my death or health?' she said.

Anyway its good news for the fans of this 'Vaalu Jada Tolu Beltu' heroine who are depressed with the talk that she is dead. Kanaka is the daughter of yesteryear heroine Devika and has acted in more than 60 films as a heroine.
