sid_22 Posted August 1, 2013 Report Posted August 1, 2013 Two UPA ministers join clamour for more smaller states after Telangana A day after the Congress Working Committee endorsed the decision to create a separate state of Telangana, two Congress ministers have jumped into the clamour for smaller states while demands for separate states in other parts of the country have been intensifying. The Congress's decision is a move with consequences, more so just before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Already, similar demands for separate states are reaching fever pitch across the country. They include creating Gorkhaland from West Bengal, Vidarbha from Maharashtra, Bodoland from Assam, Mithila Pradesh in Bihar and carving out Harit Pradesh, Bundelkhand and Poorvanchal from Uttar Pradesh. The Nationalist Congress Party which supported the statehood demand for Telangana, said it will also support statehood demand for Vidarbha. "My party will go with the will of the people," said NCP leader and Union Minister Praful Patel who also represents Vidarbha. Supporting Congress's decision on Telangana, the NCP leader said this was the only way out as there were so much demand and agitation for it. He added that NCP chief Sharad Pawar was one of the few leaders who addressed a rally in support of it many years ago. Another UPA minister Ajit Singh, who is Civil Aviation Minister, calls for agitation for creation of Harit Pradesh from Uttar Pradesh. But the decision to create smaller states does not seem to be supported by many parties. The Samajwadi Party was against the bifurcation of Uttar Pradesh. "We don't support the demand of bifurcation of Uttar Pradesh. This is all done for votes," said SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav. He also said that they don not take remarks of BSP leader Mayawati seriously. For the moment, the Congress has ruled out the possibility of a second State Reorganisation Commission on the grounds that Telangana was a special case. The Bharatiya Janata Party said there can be more agitation over demand for separate state near elections. "We might see more agiatations over demand for separate state near elections. Let State Reorganisation see the viability," said BJP leader Chandan Mitra. The demand for Gorkhaland has already intensified with the Gorkha Janmukti morcha calling an indefinite bandh in Darjeeling from August 3 forcing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to strongly hit out at the Congress. okkoka cong and UPA lk ni shoot chesi ..
