50,000 Telangana Students Coming Back From Andhra Cities

The division of Andhra Pradesh is all set to trigger a massive exodus of students from intermediate colleges in coastal Andhra back to Telangana. Around 50,000 students from Telangana, currently in their intermediate first year in colleges in Seemandhra cities, are planning a return journey so as to not lose the local status in Eamcet-2014.

As per [url="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Eamcet"]Eamcet[/url] rules, students can appear as local candidates only if they complete their intermediate studies in the same state. In Eamcet 2014, which is expected to be bifurcated to suit the needs of the two states, [url="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Telangana-students"]Telangana students[/url] would have to show proof of their intermediate education within the 10 'T' districts if they want to claim local status and take admissions in the engineering and medical colleges here. However, several students from the districts of Nalgonda, Khammam, Karimnagar and Adilabad are studying in colleges in Vijayawada and Guntur, which house the head offices of most corporate intermediate colleges, including those of Narayana and Sri Chaitanya group of institutions. This mass migration of Telangana students has been going on since the last three decades, reaching a peak in 2005, mainly owing to the presence of many qualified teachers in Vijayawada.









Since classes were disrupted during the beginning of the fresh unrest in Telangana (in 2009), several students from the 10 districts opted for studies in the Andhra region. These students are now coming back," said P Madhusudan Reddy from [url="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Junior-College-Lecturers-Association"]Junior College Lecturers Association[/url].Students from the "T' region chose Vijayawada colleges also because the private college groups had not set up their institutes in most Telangana districts except Hyderabad. "Students who wanted to appear for Eamcet earlier had no choice but to go for education in Andhra region," said an observer.

However, senior officials from the Board of Intermediate Education said there was no need to panic. "Bifurcation will happen gradually and students need not be worried about their future," said a senior officer. But despite their assertions, intermediate lecturers said that college managements in Hyderabad was getting calls from scores of parents seeking transfers of students back to the city. "We don't know if we can accommodate them all," said the principal of a college.

Meanwhile, students from the Andhra region studying in Hyderabad colleges will also have to shift to their home towns to claim local status in Eamcet. However, only around 2,000 such students are currently in the city. [img]http://www.brahmanandamgifs.com/Images/GIFs/Vetakaram/9.gif[/img]
