New Delhi, Aug 1: Congress president Sonia Gandhi is reported to have expressed anger at the demolition or defacing the statues of her husband Rajiv Gandhi and mother-in-law Indira Gandhi in several places of the state. It is learnt that she directed the Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy to take severe action against the vandalism.[/color]

It may be mentioned here that the statues of both the former Prime Ministers were either being demolished or being defaced or burnt in the Seemandhra region. In Anantapur Indira Gandhi’s statue was burnt. Garlands of footwear were thrown around the necks of statues at several places. [/color]
