Just like Ludwig van Beethoven, 22-year-old Filipino Hearns Sebuado is deaf. And just like the master musician and composer, this didn't stop him from reaching his dreams.

Sebuado is a dancer who graduated at Middlesex University in the United Kingdom last July with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance Performance according to a report from “News to Go's” Mark Salazar on Thursday morning.

As a dancer, listening to music to pace your steps is crucial, but Sebuado manages through a different method.

“I'm trying to feel the beat. I listen to it. I try to feel the rhythm. Once I feel it inside me, I start to dance,” he said.

But even with his extraordinary talent, Sebuado admits that he didn't master this talent overnight.

“[It] took a long time for me to feel the music, you know. I started to listen to music, different type of music like slow, tempo,” he explained.

According to his mother, Sebuado has shown interest in dance the age of two. However, he developed a hearing problem when he was around 10.

This didn't stop him going for a dancing course in college, however.

“Nagulat ako, sabi ko, anak yang [kursong] kukunin mo paano mo maririnig ang music? Yung timing ng sayaw mo [apektado],” her mother recalled.

She said her son told her that he would still try, even knowing that it would be difficult with his disability.

Sebuado not only achieved his dream; he now serves as a living inspiration for people with disabilities especially the deaf.

His story was recently picked up by British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the event of which he announced on his Twitter account.

“Finished dancing and interviewing for BBC London News! Tune in tomorrow, you wouldn't want to miss it!” Sebuado tweeted on Wednesday.

He now plans to reach out and help others like him to spread their wings and achieve their own dreams.

“I'm planning to teach other people, deaf people, like I taught them last summer,” he said. — Andrei Medina/VC, GMA News
