"Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu appears to have learnt a lesson or two from Congress president Sonia Gandhi, at least on the Telangana issue.

Naidu on Wednesday made it clear to the Seemandhra employees of Secretariat that he had given a letter to the Centre supporting the formation of Telangana state and there was no question of backtracking on the same.

“We have given a letter to the Centre in 2008 itself in support of Telangana state. And during the all-party meeting convened by union home ministry, too, we reiterated our stand. I cannot go back on this stand. However, I will fight for the rights of Seemandhra employees and protect their interests in the Telangana region,” Naidu is learnt to have told them.

The TDP president’s stand on Telangana reminds us of a similar stand taken by Sonia Gandhi. She also has been asserting that she has taken a decision to carve out separate Telangana state and there is no question of going back on the same.

While the Congress hopes to reap benefits from its stand, Naidu hopes that his stand would fetch his party some seats in the Telangana region.
