The steps we stand on are carbon coated steel built in order to survive the friction generated and amplified with every iteration.

raj9002 Posted August 18, 2013 Report Posted August 18, 2013 Few days back i have seen few people using escalators in Sec-bad railway station. I found useless and just waste of money, since most of the travelers were uneducated and they hardly no how to use them. I have seen literally two or three elder ppl faced minor injuries using these escalators, they were unable step out of escalators due to heavy weights of baggage they are carrying etc., In my opinion it would have been better if they use the money to increase the hygiene and expanding structure of existing amenities.

The South Central Railway has spent Rs 6.60 crore on the seven escalators, civil engineering works, electrical power supply and other arrangements. The two lifts have cost the SCR about Rs 98 lakh. Each lift has the capacity to carry 20 persons at a time. Each escalator can carry 180 persons per minute. It is estimated that around 43,000 passengers use escalators on any given day. Escalators and lifts not only facilitate easy and quick movement of passengers but have also proven to be a boon to the elderly, sick and physically challenged.
