Mumbai: The Mumbai Police on Friday arrested all the five accused allegedly involved in the shocking gang-rape of a 23-year-old photo journalist here.
The photojournalist, who was working as an intern with an English magazine, was allegedly gang-raped by five men at around 8pm on Thursday near Shakti Mills in Lower Parel area of the metropolis.
The victim was on an assignment, doing a story on 'chawl' when the incident took place, police said.
In a chilling reminder of the December gang rape in Delhi, the men tied up the victim's friend and raped the woman.
In a statement given to police, the girl said the five goons were present in the Shakti Mills compound. They started making lewd remarks and harassed her. When her friend intervened, two of them assaulted him. Three others took her inside the dilapidated structure and raped her.
The police registered a gang-rape case in NM Joshi Marg police station and recorded the statement of the victim's friend.
The cops claimed the victim has identified two of the accused by their names. She told police that two of them were calling each other as Rupesh and Sajid, they said, adding, some drug addicts have been picked up from the area for questioning. Earlier, the police had released sketches of the five accused and had picked up about 20 people for questioning.
The sketches were prepared on the basis of the description provided by the victim's male colleague, who was tied up by the accused before they sexually assaulted the woman. Several teams were formed and send across the city to track the culprits.

Moving swiftly, Mumbai Police on Friday claimed to have cracked Thursday evening’s gangrape case of a photojournalist, with the arrest of two of the five alleged accused.
Police sources said two of the accused were arrested on Friday morning on the basis of the statement of the victim after a manhunt was launched for them in the wake of a massive public outrage. Efforts are on to apprehend others, they said.
However, senior Congress leader Murli Deora said five suspects have been arrested.
“This case has been cracked. Five persons have been arrested and are in the lock-up,” he told reporters.
In Delhi, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said he had spoken to the Mumbai Police Commissioner over the case.
The police had earlier in the day released the sketches of the five accused as police teams fanned out across the city to track down the perpetrators.
The sketches were prepared on the basis of the description provided by the male friend of the 23-year-old victim, interning as a photojournalist with an English magazine, who was tied up by the accused before they sexually assaulted her.
The accused were said to be in the age group of 24 to 30 years.
20 suspects were picked up for questioning in connection with the case.
Victim's condition stable
The condition of the victim, admitted to Jaslok Hospital, is said to be stable. Preliminary reports suggested that she sustained multiple internal injuries, they said.
Dr. Taran Gyanchandani, acting CEO of the hospital, said, “We are doing the needful...she is under strict observation.”
The woman was allegedly gangraped at around 8 p.m. yesterday at the deserted Shakti Mills compound in Lower Parel when she was on an assignment, doing a story on old chawls in the city.

Minister of State for Home RPN Singh said the Home Ministry has sought a detailed report from the Mumbai police.
“It is an extremely tragic and unfortunate incident that has happened in Mumbai. We have asked for a detailed report from the Mumbai police. We have also asked the Mumbai police to take immediate action...to arrest the accused. Harshest punishment should be meted out to these people,” he said.
