But surviving close to three ,one of the kalasams which is at the top of the entrance Gopuram of this renowned Shiva temple, fell off yesterday evening.
It was learnt that yesterday evening at about 4 pm the kalasam (about 10 kg weight) fell on to the ground inside the temple from 30 feet height.
The gopuram was believed to be 800 years old construction and the limestone, clay mixed brick kalasam was shattered after the fall.
However, there were no casualties as the temple too was not crowded, thanks to the samaikhyandhra protests which made most people around the gopuram sticking to indoors.
Luckily the petty shops inside the temple complex were also closed due to poor turnout of the devotees since past 3 weeks due to agitation.
The devotees as well as the locals who rushed to the spot, complained that the temple authorities never bothered to fix the cracks that were obvious.
They even complained that at least Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) should have taken interest to fix the cracks after 2010 rajagopuram collapse.
