To All activists of all movements,
It’s almost a month since the announcement of state bifurcation has come out and almost a month since the film lovers are waiting for the films of their favorite stars to come out. Theatres are more or less locked out in Seemandhra ( I feel sad to use this word) and theatres in Telangana are waiting for audience to walk in as they are all running empty because of no big films. Few small producers took this as a golden opportunity and released their films but their films have not really done well to recover the investment as collections in ceded and other Andhra areas are very poor. Big films like Yevadu, Attarintiki Daredi, Bhai and Ramayya Vasthavayya are awaiting a date for the release and these four films have almost 200 crores riding on them. The producers are worried at escalating interest costs, distributors are worried about blocked money and the film lovers are desperate to break the shackles to watch the movies. While all this looked worrying and some hope glittering at farthest point, another JAC announced that they will not allow the films of another big star in Telangana. The film industry is surviving such threats for the last 4 years since turmoil in the state and is looking for bail out from threats from any organization worth salt. This is not just the situation in our won state, but also in neighboring states like Tamilnadu where Vishwaroopam and Thalaivaa took a hit and states like Gujarat where few films were stopped. In this background, one big question that pops out of the mind is about why the films and film stars are sitting duck for every agitation.

Films are the biggest entertainment that we Indians love. Film stars are always considered larger than life and are given iconic status by us. Stars like NTR, Rajnikanth, Chiranjeevi, Amitabh Bachchan and MGR are worshipped, adored, loved and owned by film goers. Their religion, region, political affiliations and opinions have never bothered the audience and that made films as one common thread that conjoins people of this country. The emergence of mob behavior and the agitations done by small groups polarized by their ideologies seems to have changing the situation off late. These groups that look for ways and means to make their agitation look for popular targets and films become their most loved. While bandhs, hartals and fastings bring them publicity, stopping a film gets 100 x publicity and they try to grab the opportunity. When some one from Seemandhra JAC says that they will stop mega films in Seemandhra and OU JAC announces that NTR films will not be allowed in Telangana, media publishes it in headlines, re runs in news channels and makes that person the most sought after celebrity and who doesn’t want that? Besides this, film makers never want to get into trouble with anyone and such people become easy target as the agitators know that they will not be opposed and that makes films and film makers’ easy targets. Stopping the films doesn’t make any impact on film lovers and audience and they keep loving films as usual. Look at collections of Puri Jagan’s Iddarammayilatho that came after controversial CMGR in Nizam and that tells the story. Pawan Kalyan’s Attarintiki Daredi would sure see blockbuster openings in Nizam too. If people of Seemandhra wants to punish Ram Charan and Pawan Kalyan for the decision congress party took to which Chiranjeevi belongs, lets telecast Magadheera or Gabbar Singh on TV today and see the TRP ratings. To the contrary, the films would be watched across and even by the families of those people who are hell bent on stopping them. Stopping the films has never helped anyone and will not help anyone and all such acts of getting 15 minutes of glory should be just opposed. The saddest thing is that even government and officials are not helping the cause and that’s the problem. Exhibitors are being forced to close the theatre which is causing the loss to the tune of lacs everyday. They fear that the theatres can be attacked which could increase the loss further and that fear is being used by the agitators. Distributors have blocked their money in the form of advances paid and the interest burden on producers is growing day by day. The funniest part in the entire episode could be that the people who are running and supporting these agitations could as well be having businesses themselves and their businesses; occupations could be running despite all agitations. If their businesses are running, why can’t cinemas run? What big mistake has films and film makers done that their livelihood is blocked? More than 200 people base their livelihood on films and would a sensible human being like to block their livelihood for whatever reasons we have? Is this fair to punish those artists who entertain us and bring us out of depression and sad moments with their performance? Why should Ram Charan be punished because of the decision of the party to which Chiranjeevi belongs has taken? Chiranjeevi could have resigned as per war cry by these people but what if the same is rejected or what if his resignation is accepted but still their wish is not granted? Why should NTR be punished because NTR’s father has taken a personal decision to support united AP? Has NTR even said that he is pro or against? While he is busy in his projects, it is unfair to cast aspersions on him based on what his father says. Let me ask a question to all who are enraged with my writing. Lets assume that your brother or your relative has participated in any of these agitations and burnt a bus. If police couldn’t find him and wants to arrest you, will you go in? Will you agree to be accountable for the actions of your sibling/spouse/parents? If your answer is NO, then why should these actors and film makers be punished?

I think its high time we get our dose of entertainment that we deserve by getting our films released. The entire schedule of the films has gone haywire and the film releases should start immediately. If the private concerns are running business despite agitations, films also can. Thousands of crores is at stake and we should demand our dose of entertainment from all the parties concerned. Let’s hope that it makes sense with all the agitators and the films could see their release soon.

yeah, its very important to watch silly movies over the weekend and discuss it over the next week.

The idea of a movement is to make people sit and take notice of it. So they'll hit where it'll hurt the hardest.

It's silly to expect a movement of this scale to spare movie releases. I wonder what people smoke when they write such stupid stuff.

Remember, film actors, technicians don't lose much if a film stalls. Only producers do, because they are stupid enough to make it in the first place. I don't understand a person who takes loans from loan sharks @35% interest to invest it in a film.

If idiots like this suffer losses, perhaps the next round of financing to films will come from more legitimate sources, which will probably improve the quality of films too.

I'm all for people attacking movie releases first to show their displeasure.
