The Indian rupee breached the 67-mark in early trade Wednesday, hitting a record low of 67.37 against the dollar, down 113 paise from previous close.

Ashutosh Raina, HDFC Bank feels that geopolitical tensions continue to put pressure on global currencies. "Flight to seek dollar safety is expected to intensify pressures on the rupee in the short term," he adds.

that's the way currency markets work. You sending money to India will lift the rupee up. The later you send, the less bang for the dollar you get, provided there are others like you who have sent already.

If people are waiting for the rupee to fall further down to send money, rupee will further go down. But no one can wait forever :)

All the best, send as soon as you can. It's not possible for you to time it perfectly unless you have lots of data on the way the currency will probably move. I do, but I can't tell. Coz I trade in currencies a lot.

Zimbabwe doesn't have a huge expatriate population willing to send money to their country.

But it looks like Indians themselves are not doing as well as they did in the US in the early 2000s. Or they no longer care about investing in India, which is a smart decision.

just watch the equity market in India, which is where the demand for dollars is surging. Plenty of fdi being pulled out from there. Also the bond markets where FIIs have invested.

Stock markets are also a decent indicator of where the rupee is going. Especially look for stocks where there's a huge investment from FIIs. Their movement will affect the rupee a lot.

Besides these there are several other factors that affect the rupee. But these are easily observable.
