correction, Mr. White was in the drug business for about an year. Not 4-5 yrs. It's been around a few months since he's left it, though its not entirely clear how long because baby holly is mentioned to be 18 months old in the last episode, which makes it around 6-7 months since he's left the business. It kinda seems a chronological inconsistency of the show. Or may be I missed something.
