[b]Washington: [/b]Forty-six year old Indian techie from Andhra Pradesh Srinivasa Erramilli was sentenced to nine months jail on charges of groping an American woman during a flight. Erramilli will be deported to India after serving his sentence.
A software consultant, Srinivasa S Erramilli, was also fined $ 5,000 and placed on court supervision for a year after he is released from custody by US District Judge Joan H Lefkow.
Erramilli, a software consultant, was sitting in a middle seat between the woman and her husband as the couple returned from Las Vegas where they had celebrated their 34th anniversary, the victim testified during the three-day trial in Chicago.
The victim, who was wearing shorts during the flight, testified that Erramilli groped her three times aboard the plane.
The first time she awoke to feeling something brush against her thigh; the second time, she testified that she awoke to feeling “pressure” on her thigh.
The third time, the victim testified that Erramilli placed his hand up the leg of her shorts and then rubbed and grabbed her inner thigh.
She struck Erramilli and yelled at him after realizing that he had been groping her. Other passengers and flight attendants also testified during the trial.
As the verdict was read on Thursday, Erramilli showed little emotion but later sat with his head bowed. A relative of his wiped tears from her eyes
