Mother Apologized For Her Son's Actions,

Washington Navy Yard gunman Aaron Alexis' mother apologized Wednesday for her son's actions, saying she was glad that he is "now in a place where he can no longer do harm to anyone."[/font][/color][color=#000000][font=arial]
"I don't know why he did what he did, and I'll never be able to ask him why," Cathleen Alexis said in a statement recorded by CNN.[/font][/color][color=#000000][font=arial]
"I'm so, so very this has happened. My heart is broken," she said.[/font][/color][color=#000000][font=arial]
Her statement comes two days after Alexis, a military contractor, shot and killed 12 people at the [url="http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/16/us/navy-yard-description/"]historic Navy base[/url].[/font][/color][color=#000000][font=arial]
Navy officials allowed employees back on the base on Wednesday to pick up personal belongings, Capt. Monte Ulmer, commander of Naval Support Activity Washington, told CNN affiliate WJLA. It was scheduled to resume normal operations on Thursday, he said.[/font][/color]
