Rebellion brewing in Kiran Kumar cabinet; Chiranjeevi, eight ministers flay CM’s utterances

HYDERABAD: Virtually signalling a rebellion against chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, 9 ministers from the Seemandhra region and Union tourism minister Chiranjeevi said the CM questioning the decision of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Telangana was unacceptable to them.

Speaking on behalf of the ministers who attended the meeting, finance minister Anam Ramnarayan Reddy said: "Blaming the CWC alone for theTelangana resolution is not acceptable. The CWC took the decision three years after all parties conveyed their decision to support the bifurcation of the state."

Apart from Anam and Chiranjeevi, Botsa Satyanarayana, Dokka Manikya Varaprasad, C Ramachandraiah, Vatti Vasant Kumar, M Mahidhar Reddy, N Raghuveera Reddy and P Balaraju were the state ministers who attended the meeting held at the finance minister's residence. Sources said the ministers took the extraordinary step to take on Kiran on the hunch that the CM was planning a few more press conferences to attack the Congress's resolve to go ahead with the bifurcation.

While G Kishan Reddy of BJP asked 18 questions, Akbaruddin Owaisi of MIM asked 19 questions and A Rajendar of Malkajgiri constituency 17 questions.

"This is a very crucial period in the assembly session which should be utilized in the right way. How can they ask petty questions which could otherwise be solved by just discussing with civic officials," said G Chakrapani, professor of sociology, BR Amedkar Open University.

"The problem is most of the city MLAs still do not understand the importance of assembly and its proceedings, though we expect them to be the enlightened ones in the lot, since they represent the city. For a few others, this question hour is to fulfil their personal agenda," he said.

Experts said many MLAs raise issues where they have personal interest. "Ideally, we would expect them to raise and dwell on topics which would help in the future growth of the city," he added.

Drawing a comparison with those MLAs from Mumbai, Bangalore or Delhi, experts said city legislators have a lot to learn when it comes to representing their constituencies in assembly.
