[color=#000000][font=Arial, Helvetica,]“Congress has 22 members of Parliament (MPs) from Seemandhra region and if these MPs submit their resignation to speaker of the Lok Sabha then United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in centre can come in minority. In such a situation there would be early polls,” Pawar told the party’s ministers in the Maharashtra state cabinet and state unit office-bearers in Mumbai on Wednesday. The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held in April-May of 2014.[/font][/color]
[color=#000000][font=Arial, Helvetica,]Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the party’s general secretary and Union minister for heavy industries [size=3][b][background=transparent][url="http://www.livemint.com/Search/Link/Keyword/Praful%20Patel"]Praful Patel[/url][/background][/b][/size] said that the seat-sharing arrangement with Congress in the state has not been finalised.[/font][/color]
[color=#000000][font=Arial, Helvetica,]“Pawar met Congress president [size=3][b][background=transparent][url="http://www.livemint.com/Search/Link/Keyword/Sonia%20Gandhi"]Sonia Gandhi[/url][/background][/b][/size] last week and both leaders agreed to contest Lok Sabha polls as an alliance and it was also decided the issue of seat sharing will be resolved amicably at later date,” Patel said.[/font][/color]
[color=#000000][font=Arial, Helvetica,]The NCP had earlier taken a stand that the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls will be contested according to the seat-sharing arrangements reached in 2009 and there will not be any fresh negotiation. In 2009, Congress contested 26 Lok Sabha seats and NCP 22.[/font][/color]
[color=#000000][font=Arial, Helvetica,]However, Congress is now demanding a higher share of seats. It wants to contest 29 seats out of total 48 seats in Maharashtra.[/font][/color]
[color=#000000][font=Arial, Helvetica,]The NCP had won just eight seats out of 22 it contested where as Congress won 17 seats out of 26 it contested in 2009 Lok Sabha elections[/font][/color]
