Everyone is saying that NTR is shown in never before way. How did you plan his character?

I know NTR for very long time and he is one person besides Ravi Teja with whom I have spent lot of time. I used to see the jovial nature in him and wanted to show the same on screen. In fact the base of the script I have written in NTR Character. Once I have frozen the character and characterization, I wrote the script accordingly. When I told him the same he liked the idea and we went ahead. I thank NTR for his belief in me.

How did you plan his look in the film?

NTR is a director’s actor. When I told him that I want him to look younger than his age and wants to show him as college student, he immediately took initiative in employing a physical trainer and came out fabulously looking. He took care of designing his costumes for the film and even for Duryodhana character he has selected every thing himself just like his grandfather. He is a perfectionist and does anything that is needed for the character.

His Character in second half becomes very serious and different from what you have shown in the first half. There are some comments coming from audience on this. What is your response?

While I wanted to show a different and Younger NTR, another aspect that I always loved in NTR are his dynamism and his ability to show Roudhra Rasam. Very few actors can do the Roudhra Rasam very well. I always loved NTR doing that, whether it is Simhadri or Aadi. I didn’t want to miss that. We didn’t change the mood of character suddenly if you have observed. We have hinted in pre-interval track itself when the mood of the film changes and the second half has been designed the way it is done intentionally and show the angle of NTR. I have also heard the comments on second half but let me tell you I’m very happy with the way it has come and NTR has given his best in living my dream.

But many are commenting that the excessive violence in 2nd half has become a deterrent.

I strongly condemn the word violence. I have used Action by Ram Laxman in titles and not Violence in Ram Laxman. Yes I agree and felt that we have gone a step further but it was needed. May be it has come out of my frustration with the system and the impact of the incidents like Delhi and Mumbai Rape. I wanted to suggest a strong solution for the atrocities against women and may be that has given an impression that there is an excessive violence in the film.

Another comment that has come early on is about Shruti Haasan character. Few are commenting that her performance is not up to the mark and her episode is little let down.

I don’t understand where these comments are coming from. According to me her performance in Ramayya Vasthavayya is far superior to her performance in Gabbar Singh.

The music and dances of the film is getting huge response…particularly NTR steps in Pandaga Chesko

We all know that NTR is one of the best dancers in the industry. His dancing skills are not used to the mark these days and I wanted to show case his dancing skills in the sing and Am happy that the song is getting awesome response.

You have used Ilaiyaraja songs in background in Samantha scenes. That has taken the scene to next level. How did you visualize using Ilaiyaraja songs in background.

See…For me Ilaiyaraja is like a god. I love his music and I die for his music. I don’t know if you have noticed, but I have used Ilaiyaraja songs in background in all my movies starting from Shock. Did you observe in Mirapakaay when Navvindhi Mallechendu song comes in background when Ravi Teja and Deeksha go on the bike? Many of his songs are used in Gabbar Singh Anyakshari too. I believe that my film will be incomplete without Ilaiyaraja. And I am a music buff and keep listening to the music whatever I’m doing. That’s what I have done in including those scenes in the film.

Ravishankar has been awesome as the villain. While many Hindi villains are ruling the roost, you took a call to get a Telugu person on board.

Ravi dubbed for Abhimanyu Singh in Gabbar Singh. I could see his passion and his style when he worked for the movie. He is a good actor with fantastic expressions too. When I worked with Hindi actors in my earlier films, I faced problems when I needed on the spot improvisations. They don’t understand the language and can’t improvise on the set and I had promised Ravi during GS dubbing that I will take you as anti-hero in my film and since everything worked out, I took him in.

When every film is filled with battalion of comedy actors, you did comedy scenes with main lead and Rohini Hattangady garu.

Being a huge fan of EVV and Jandhyala garu, I have lot of respect for comedians but I don’t want to just have them in my films for the sake of it. I want my heroes to do comedy, action and everything. If you have seen Mirapakaay, I just had Ali in it and in Gabbar Singh though I had Brahmanandam garu his character doesn’t dominate the scene. We had a scene written in this film too for Brahmanandam garu but the length didn’t allow. So I didn’t even shoot. I don’t want comedy for the sake of it and if the script doesn’t demand the same, I don’t want to include comedians in the film for the sake of it and reduce their value.

About your technicians

I should thank all my technicians for living my dream. Chota K Naidu garu with more than 50 films experienced has shown NTR in the best possible way and he deserves credit for all applause for NTR’s look. Thaman gave fantastic songs and BGM. Brahma Kadali was awesome with his sets and Gautam Raju garu as always has been a dependable editor for me.

About the Producer Dil Raju garu

This film would not have been possible without a producer like Dil Raju garu. He is a man of conviction and once he believes, he goes to any extent and will never compromise. I thank Raju garu for this film.

How has been the response from NTR fans?

You will not believe…My phone has not stopped ringing from the morning and fans are calling me from everywhere. They are thanking me for the way NTR is showing and are telling me that I have shown their hero in the way they wanted to see. I could see excitement and tears when they talk. I’m thankful to NTR fans for the love they are showering on the film and on me.

Your last word…

I’m getting lot of appreciation for Ramayya Vasthavayya right from the morning but yes, I heard about mixed reviews from some quarters. I wanted to show NTR in never before way and wanted to showcase his Roudhra Rasam on screen. While some people are thinking that the second half has slowed down, it is not true. We have gone by what script demanded and I completely believe that we have been 100% successful in showing the NTR what we wanted to show. I’m sure that Ramayya Vastavayya will be the winner of the season and will be loved by all.
