I am doing my second masters in Health Informatics. My visa expired in 2010 Jan. Since then I never been to India. My current I-2o is valid until 2016 May. I have to go to India immediately because of my mother's ill health. My previous visa interview was in 2006. So I am completely unaware of the current proceedings. I heard that we can send our passport through mail and we will get the stamping with a valid I-20(with out personal interview). Is that true?

Do I need to submit my financial documents again? Can anybody tell me the correct procedure, please?

Thanks in advance.

You can use drop-box only if your visa expired in the last 12 months. In your case it expired in 2010 so you will not be eligible for drop-box, you have to go in person.
The visa process is a 2 day process now.
1) Create account in usvisa.com
2) Fill DS 160 form (no more ds 156, 157, 158), just one form (you also cjoose ur consulate here)
3) Go back to usvisa.com account and enter your DS160 conf number and it will generate payment amount slip
4) Take the payment amount slip to CITI or AXIS bank and make the payment and they will give u a confirmation number
5) The receipt will be activated in few hours (unlike earlier it used to take few days)
6) Once it is activated they will send sms message to your cell, then log back into usvisa.com and book your appointment
7) Yes, you will still need supporting financial documentation. If you have fill fee waiver and graduate assistantship it will help
8) Be ready with questions regarding what you have been doing since 2006, status continuity, etc related questions.

GOOD LUCK

Thanks boss. Though I got visa in 2006, I came here in 2008 Spring. My first masters is in Public Health, finished in May 2011. Then used my OPT, which expired in Jun 2012. Again applied for another masters and will graduate in MAY 2014 (got complete fee waiver, research assistantship and half of the course waiver too). Worked as a research coordinator during my OPT.
Thanks for the information. This is really useful. Being a doctor from India, I have to maintain my status before getting into a specialty. Eeloga ee tippalu anni tappavu mari.

1) That facility don't exist. Many bills with that facility failed to pass. Immigration bill idi oka item, so adi pass aithey future vallaki useful
2) Since your visa was issued prior to 2010, they don't have your 10 finger prints, so unfortunately you won't have the DROPBOX facility
3) You cannot use DROPBOX in other countries, only allowed in your home country.

Looking at your situation, you'r immediate and best option is
1) Book in-person appointment in Canada and go there. Remember it is minimum 3 days process there
2) Go to India on vacation and extend your F-1 in India, again in-person. Student visas baga isthunnary, don't worry em problem undadhu.

Good Luck to you.
