iam trying to take back up of a database .the path where the back up file need to be saved has .trn extension.

 

do i need to take both with .trn and .bak

or do i need to change that extension to .bak

If there is an extension with .bak then if u want to take a backup with .trn just erase that .bak and give .trn over there. u need not take two backups for both extensions.

actually i have to take a backup of a database .by default when i hit on backup it gives a default path which has .trn extension ,my question is like

do i need edit the path to .bak 

else do i need to take 2 times back up one with .bak and .trn

Yes, u need to edit the backup path to .bak. U need not take two times backup for both the extensions.

trn is transactional backup while bkp is full backup.....i wud suggest full bkp unless requested by client

Where did u place your .bak file..

 

it should be under backup locaiton which opens up by default when u browse for it..

 

or else it will throw up that error...  also check you have write permissions on the C Drive/System drive of that new server.

ni exact requirement cheppu, we can suggest whether to take a .trn or bkp backup
