I did the bare minimum of what was required to get my degreee.. published one paper in the Australian journal of chemistry. After that, I bailed out.

One thing I can say for sure is, you can never become rich by doing research (that too in academics) but that doesn't mean it's illusionless

 

 

several academics have become multi-millionaires on the back of work done at slave wages by their postdocs. Since the professors pay their postdocs worse than in corporate, the student is better off doing the same in a corporate lab.
