As far as winning test matches, Sehwag won more matches for India than Sachin and Dravid, I guess. the obsession with Sachin is like the obsession with Federer. Every one who watched them play in the early teens knew that they have some talent.. and when it materializes, people are excited that much more. Dravid came into the team on the back of some double centuries in the Ranji trophy. I remember reading about him before he was in Indian team and he was never praised as equal to Sachin. i.e. there was no hype when he started off, even when he almost made a century on debut. May be you haven't seen Sachin play in the early 90s, and late 90s.. Dravid can't even come close to him, in style or impact. One more reason, the mumbai lobby is stronger than the karnataka lobby (if it even exists).

This is how emotion spills over, when the most popular Indian cricketer announces his retirement.. Pls don't compare Dravid, Ganguly or anyone else with Sachin. No one had to endure the kind of pressure that Sachin endured since he was 16. He's simply a couple of notches above these people. Not many even cared when Dravid retired. I think he announced it after the game ended or something, I forgot. Its okay.. he'll still be remembered as a fine batsman, who saved India from defeat many times, but he's not Tendulkar.. To see the difference, watch a match against Pak in 2006 Lahore ( the one where dhoni made fast 72 to win in the closing stages). Tendu, Dravid were batting with the pitch doing all sorts of tricks and Mohammad Asif, Umar Gul were at their best. Dravid was getting beaten almost every ball, and Tendulkar looked like he batted on a different pitch. In the end, Dravid's stats may show that he was more successful than Tendu in tests.. but he is not equal to him in batsmanship.
