BRIDGEWATER — A township man has been charged with attempting to strangle his wife to death on Thursday evening.

Timma R. Kalidindi, 48, of Francis Drive, is in Somerset County Jail after he was charged with first-degree attempted murder and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purposes.

Township police officers were able to resuscitate his 43-year-old wife, Janaki Dantuluri, whom they found lying on the floor of the garage of their home with no pulse and not breathing, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

There was a braided rope around her neck, authorities said.

Dantuluri was taken by the Bradley Gardens Rescue Squad to Somerset Medical Center where she was listed Friday in critical condition.

Police responded to a 911 call from the couple’s daughter at 7:48 p.m. Thursday reporting a dispute in progress. The daughter told police she was hearing loud noises and screams from the downstairs part of the home, according to an affidavit filed in Superior Court.

Police arrived and knocked on the door for several minutes. Then Kalidindi opened the door, dropped to his knees and put his hands above his head to surrender, the affidavit said.

Two township police officers, Arthur Akins and Anthony DiGraziano, then found Dantuluru on the garage floor. DiGraziano and Officer Kevin Lamey started CPR and revived her, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

After being arrested and given his Miranda warning about self-incrimination, Kalidindi told police officers that he had gone to the house to speak to his wife about their marital issues. Kalidindi told police that he had parked away from the home so his wife would not know he was in the neighborhood, the affidavit said.

Kalidindi told police that when his wife got home and saw him in the house, she started to scream. Kalidindi said he couldn’t talk to her because she was screaming and a struggle ensued in the laundry room, according to the affidavit.

Kalidindi told police that he pushed his wife to the floor and put both hands around her neck and started squeezing to stop her from screaming, the affidavit said.
