The nearest competitor is weblogic...but websphere dominating from all sides...if u learn this u can learn easily MQ MB commerce n portal n some other ibm products no end for it until or unless ibm need it...but as u said it's not at all near to java oracle...it is good one for those who are afraid of coding..if u like coding better go for that

These are some of the commands regularly use in was
->how to fedarate the node
Goto appserver bin directory execute the following command
addNode.bat hostname of dmgr soap port no of dmgr -includeapps
->how to start the dmgr
Goto dmgr bin directory execute the following command
startManager.bat (or) startServer.bat dmgr
(or)
Goto Was home bin directory execute the following cmd
startManager.bat (or) startServer.bat dmgr
->how to start the appserver
Goto appserver bin directory execute the following command
startServer.bat server1
(or)
Goto Was home bin directory execute the following cmd
startServer server1 -profileName AppSrv01
 How to see the server status
Goto particular server bin directory execute the follwing command
serverStatus.bat -all

(or)
Goto Was home bin directory execute the following cmd
serverStatus.bat -all -profileName “name of the profile”
ex:- serverStatus.bat -all -profileName AppSrv01”
->to list how many profiles are installed
Goto Was home bin directory execute the following cmd
• 6.0 wasprofile.bat -listProfiles
• 6.1 manageprofile.bat -listProfiles
->to display the path of profile
Goto Was home bin directory execute the following cmd
• 6.0 wasprofile.bat -getPath -profileName Dmgr01
• 6.1 manageprofile.bat -getPath -profileName Dmgr01
 To check the profile is valid
Goto Was home bin directory execute the following cmd
• 6.0 wasprofile.bat -validateRegistry
• 6.1 manageprofile.bat -validateRegistry
 How to take abackup
Goto particular profile bin directory execute the follwing command
Backupconfig.bat C:\mybackup.zip
 How to restore the backup
Goto particular profile bin directory execute the follwing command
Restoreconfig.bat c:\backup.zip -location c:\mystore
 How to start the nodeagent
Goto particular profile bin directory execute the follwing command
startNode.bat
(or)

Goto Was home bin directory execute the following cmd
startServer.bat nodeagent -profileName AppSrv01

->how to synchronization a node
Note:- dmgr should be running
Nodeagent should be stopped

Goto particular profile bin directory execute the follwing commands
syncNode.bat “host name of dmgr” “ soap port no of dmgr”
(or)
Goto Was home bin directory execute the following cmd
syncNode.bat “host name of dmgr” “ soap port no of dmgr” -profileName “name of the profile”


 To cleanup the node
Goto dmgr bin directory execute the following command
cleanupNode.bat “nodename of application server” “host name of dmgr” “soap port no dmgr”

ex:- cleanupNode AppSrv01 localhost 8879
 To delete the profiles
Goto Was home bin directory execute the following cmd
In 6.1:- Manageprofile.bat -delete -profileName “name of the profile”
In 6.0:- wasprofile.bat -delete -profileName “name of the profile”
 To add the new node group
Goto appserver bin directory execute the following cmd
addNode.bat “host name of dmgr” soap port no of dmgr” -includeapps
-nodegroupname “name of node group”

If u r good in maths go for programming side or else oracle dba maa venakale vuntundi ante meeku mundu adhi bavuntundi ...never take decision based on others just take suggestions n decide ur self which is good for u
