In 1959 Bhadrachalam Revenue Division consisting Nuguru Venkatapuram Taluk of East Godavari district, which was on the other side of the river Godavari was merged into Khammam on grounds of geographical contiguity and administrative viability. This along with Munagala(from Krishna district) and Aswaraopeta (from West Godavari District) were added in 1959.
