It's important to have representatives as much as possible of all sections of society.. merit based reservation is a stupid idea, when majority of dalits are below poverty line. Any upper caste poor trying to get in through reservation must be blocked. He can wait until dalits, lower castes are equal to upper castes financially and socially. I partially agree.... lot of them are below poverty and with the conditions they live, they will not be able to compete with OCs. But what about financially backward and uppercaste meritorious student ? what exactly do you mean by wait..? Do you mean to wait him for generations ? like the backward caste waited ? Do you want the same injustice to happen for OCs this time ? Neither zero reservations nor the existing system solve the problem. We have to come up with more sensible and complex model... I don't know what that is...
