pisinari Posted January 20, 2014 Report Posted January 20, 2014 MegaStar Chiranjeevi is a self-made man, an iconic star who is perhaps the biggest endorsement for a superstar with amazing acting credentials, from the masses to classes, children to elders, critics to trade pundits, everybody love him and his movies, this can be emphasized from equal craze for his movies across A, B , C and D centres, when he introduced Ram Charan in 2007, seldom would he have realized the sort of enigma Charan would become as he is today, considering the sort of sky-high expectations people have from the MEGASTAR’s son. Take this for starters, Charan has done 7 films in total (1 film being dubbed), he has one hit (Chiruta), 2 superhits (Nayak and Racha), one blockbuster (Yevadu), one Industry Hit (Magadheera) and two commercial flops (Orange and Zanjeer/Thoofan), in a career span of 6.5 years with the sort of box office track record he has achieved, its only fair to say the Megastar’s legacy is not just safe but is up for a huge spike in coming days. Having pressure on you is one thing but performing not just well but redefining success under pressure is all together another thing, to even be able to meet the expectations of people from Chiranjeevi’s successor is an astonishing task and Charan has taken to success like fish to water. It’s not just the box office numbers that Charan has redefined but its with the sort of average content in his films that he doles out superhits on superhits that has surprised many in industry including those who despise him, An average content film with average word of mouth collecting 47 crores share worldwide was unheard of until Charan came up with Racha, An average film with positive word of mouth with humongous competition in the form of another film from Tollywood titan Mahesh babu and collecting 48 crores share worldwide was unheard of until Charan came up with Nayak, This Sankranti Charan has redefined and improved upon his own record with average content garnering 40 crores share worldwide in just 8 days despite releasing with the costliest film ever made in Tollywood starring superstar Mahesh, these are exceptional feats which nobody in Industry today can boast of owning nor think about achieving them in near future. With Yevadu, Charan has taken the box office range to next level, take this for starters, Yevadu releasing in 720 screens in AP and 880+ worldwide has garnered 40 crores share as i write this article in 8 days, Yevadu collected 31 crores share in AP with 720 screens, Attarintiki Daaredi (The current Industry Hit as per worldwide share) took 919 screens in AP to garner 34.5 crores in AP for first week, with limited screens and humongous competition from Mahesh’s Nenokkadine, Yevadu has created Week 1 record in following trade areas East, West, Nellore, Ceeded (with FH) and Karnataka, these are the sort of records every top hero in Tollywood dreams to have, with the exception of Pawan or Mahesh with excellent word of mouth, no other actor can come close to these numbers, The sort of numbers Charan is managing with so many odds against him is pure enigma, a box office enigma, More so the awe because of the odds he is against, with so many detractors both from home turf and other camps, he is managing to silence his detractors every single time with his mind boggling numbers. By the end of full run for Yevadu movie, Charan is poised to have Two 45+ crores share movie, One Fifty+ crores share movie, one 70+ crores share movie, all these in a career span of 6.5 months with 7 films old, a feat which Pawan Kalyan, Mahesh Babu and Jr NTR with more than 19 films apiece do not have to boast off, in all time Top 10 movies in Tollywood, Charan has 4 movies, the next best are Pawan and Mahesh with 2 films apiece. In true box office stamina and potential in domestic box office Charan is second to none, but with advent of Overseas market as a significant part of total collections, Charan needs to improve his standing in overseas, amongst Pawan, Mahesh and Charan, Charan clearly is weak in overseas, this has to predominantly do with some of the movies he has done which belong to mass genre that audience in overseas usually are not known for encouraging, overseas audience prefer family dramas, comedy etc. Another criticism Charan is facing is his selection of roles that has limited scope of diverse histrionics, I think Charan’s upcoming films are carefully planned to tackle both the criticism of stereotyped movies and limited appeal in Overseas, the family drama with Krishna Vamshi, next a love story with Trivikram srinivas are carefully planned to build and project Charan as a complete package to all centres and to appeal audience of all groups. Ram Charan is not just a Box office enigma but also the current Box office king with outstanding box office credentials to show, only Pawan Kalyan and Mahesh Babu can match his records with right movies, Charan with right planning can surely be the next Megastar. One man. All centres. Same result.
