sid_22 Posted January 26, 2014 Report Posted January 26, 2014 Yet another opinion poll has predicted that the BJP is likely to record its best ever tally in the coming Lok Sabha elections. According to an ABP News-AC Nielson poll, BJP is expected to win 210 seats, while the Congress could slip to its lowest level with just 81 seats. The poll, which gives the NDA 226 seats, comes a day after two other polls had forecast very similar results and adds to the growing perception of Narendra Modi being very likely to be India's next Prime Minister. According to the poll released on Saturday, the UPA is likely to win just 101 seats and the Left 30, leaving 186 seats for parties that are not part of the NDA, UPA or Left. The poll did not give a party-wise break-up of these "others", except to suggest that AAP would win 11 seats. The NDA's strong showing, according to the survey, would be driven largely by impressive tallies from the north and west of the country. The showing in the west, which includes Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, among others, is predicted to be particularly dominant, with the NDA getting 82 of the 116 seats here. The north is also forecast to yield the alliance 82 seats, but that's only a little more than half the total of 151 in the region. The BJP-led alliance was predicted to win 43 of 142 seats in the east and 19 of 134 in the south. In contrast, the UPA's meager tally would be spread quite evenly across the four regions, ranging from a minimum of 22 in the east to a maximum of 28 in the west, the poll suggested. "Others" are predicted to do best in the south, winning 76 of 134 seats, an indication that both Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh — states crucial to UPA's wins in the last two Lok Sabha polls — are shown by the survey to be moving away dramatically from the UPA. The poll showed Narendra Modi being the most preferred PM candidate by some distance with 53 per cent picking him compared to just 15 per cent for Rahul Gandhi and 5 per cent for Arvind Kejriwal. Some 27 per cent picked "others", but the details were not available.
