I think resident alien=Green card holder

Nonresident Aliens

If you are an alien (not a U.S. citizen), you are considered a nonresident alien unless you meet one of the two tests described next under Resident Aliens.

Resident Aliens

You are a resident alien of the United States for tax purposes if you meet either the green card test or the substantial presence test for calendar year 2012 (January 1–December 31). Even if you do not meet either of these tests, you may be able to choose to be treated as a U.S. resident for part of the year. .

If u r on F1 and been in USA for less than 5 years, then you will be considered as non-resident alien and you need to file 1040NR-ER and that too not electronic filing

If you are on H1 and been in USA for more than 183 days in the year 2013, you will be resident alien and file 1040 or 1040A
