Rust Cohle: I think human consciousness, is a tragic misstep in evolution. We became too self-aware, nature created an aspect of nature separate from itself, we are creatures that should not exist by natural law. We are things that labor under the illusion of having a self; an accretion of sensory, experience and feeling, programmed with total assurance that we are each somebody, when in fact everybody is nobody. Maybe the honorable thing for our species to do is deny our programming, stop reproducing, walk hand in hand into extinction, one last midnight, brothers and sisters opting out of a raw deal.

This is what happens when a smart man has to live among fools. Holds on to his teenage fantasies just out of spite for the people around him.

6mvlu.gifwill have it in my watch list..

It's not a regular detective series. Sorta creepy actually, and until now, the only thing that drives this show is the conversations between an outspoken athiest, and a hypocritical religious guy.

Its an awesome show. I like the mood and the music, and little things I picked up on second viewing.

Can't wait to watch the 4th episode of the first season.

A major theme of this series is derived from the book by Ligotti "The Conspiracy Against Human Race"

No wonder the dialogues are memorable.

He's a man frustrated and slowly coming to terms with realisation of life around him.

He keeps to himself, until one day his partner asks him about some existential questions, after which no one can stop him shooting his mouth off about everything under the sun. Especially about religion and pointlessness of existence of humans.

Another thread I'm began to notice is, he's jealous of the happy people around him, guilt free about the crimes they commit on a daily basis, their hypocrisy, and he wants to point them out to make them miserable.

Even though he isn't overly concerned about their responses.

I see a lot of myself in him, stuck in an adult body with a teenage mind, and hating everyone around him.

The book is about one thing. What worth is your life? Ans: Nothing.
