Old City Riots: Blame it on BJP

The communal riots in the Old City of Hyderabad after a gap of more than a decade make one wonder as to who could be behind the violence? It is certain that the people of Hyderabad have almost forgotten the communal violence in the last few years. Unlike in the past, the Muslim and Hindu youth of the area have become educated and career-oriented and have not been getting provoked despite much serious incidents including Lumbini Park and Gokul chat explosions and Mecca Masjid blasts. During the ongoing tense situation, several people from both the communities told the media that they had never seen those stone-pelting and sword-wielding people in their localities in the past.

So, they were all outsiders brought by some vested interests. Prima facie reports point accusing fingers at Bharatiya Janata Party. According to a report, the mining mafia backed by the BJP in the neighbouring state, is behind the riots to destabilise the Rosaiah government as a revenge to its recent action against mining activities in Anantapur district. Intelligence sources point out that the trouble began only after a Swamiji gave provocative statements against Muslims, in protest against the recent allegations against BJP veteran L K Advani in the Babri demolition issue. The celebration of Hanuman Jayanti by Bajrang Dal, in an unprecedented manner, is only to provoke the Muslims.

Secondly, the intelligence sources also got specific information that the MIM had received funds from unknown sources to provoke communal violence to create disturbances for Rosaiah government. The sources are trying to find out the source of funding. “We don’t know, as of now, whether these two inputs have any connection with each other or not. We need to investigate more into that,” an official said.
