These law-makers were protesting for the rights of sugarcane farmers

Lucknow The first day of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly session saw a unique way of protest by two Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) law-makers.

Suresh Sharma and Veer Pal Rathi ripped off their kurtas and went bare when Governor B L Joshi arrived in the assembly to give his inaugural address.

They mounted on their desks and shouted slogans against the Akhilesh Yadav government.

These law-makers were protesting for the rights of sugarcane farmers in western Uttar Pradesh; they demanded the dismissal of the state government for neglecting the concerns of these farmers.

The RLD is headed by Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh and has eight law-makers in the state assembly, mostly from western part of the state.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) also created a ruckus in the assembly demanding the dismissal of the Akhilesh Yadav government on a host of issues. The Governor had to abandon his address midway and leave the assembly.
