న్యూఢిల్లీ: తెలంగాణ ఏర్పాటుతో సీమాంధ్రలో ఎగిసిన నిరసన జ్వాలను చల్లార్చేందుకు కాంగ్రెస్ అధిష్టానం ప్రణాళికలు రచిస్తోంది. ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ విభజనతో కోస్తా, రాయలసీమ ప్రాంతాల్లో కాంగ్రెస్ పార్టీపై పెద్ద ఎత్తున నిరసనలు వ్యక్తమవుతున్నాయి. పెద్ద సంఖ్యలో నాయకులు పార్టీని వదిలి వెళ్తున్నారు. దీంతో సీమాంధ్రలో కాంగ్రెస్ పార్టీ ఖాళీ అయ్యే పరిస్థితి తలెత్తింది.

ఇది ఇలాగే కొనసాగితే పార్టీ ఉనికి కోల్పోడం ఖాయమని భావించిన అధిష్టానం దిద్దుబాటు చర్యలు ప్రారంభించింది. ఇందులో భాగంగా సీమాంధ్రకు ఐదేళ్ల పాటు ప్రత్యేక ప్రతిపత్తి ఇవ్వాలని ప్రధాని మన్మోహన్ సింగ్కు కాంగ్రెస్ అధినేత్రి సోనియా గాంధీ విజ్ఞప్తి చేశారు. దీనికి ప్రధాని ఎలా స్పందిస్తారో చూడాలి. మరోవైపు తమ పార్టీలో విలీనానికి ఆమోయోగ్యమైన అవకాశాలు టీఆర్ఎస్కు తెరిచే ఉన్నాయని కాంగ్రెస్ ప్రకటించింది.

What is special status?

The Central Government gives financial incentive to certain States to help setting up of industries. This 'special status' is granted to states which has some distinct characteristics such as harsh terrain, international borders, backwardness and social conflict. It entails a state with a bigger share of the Centre's resources.It also brings private investment in a state as investors get tax benefits. Centre also allows upto 90 per cent of its assistance to be treated as grant in special status states. Other states get 30 per cent of central aid as grant.

Which are the other states that enjoy special

category status?

The 11 States that enjoy special status areArunachal Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura and Uttarakhand.
