Hyderabad: The cat and mouse game between Congress and TRS is continuing.

Congress leaders say that they want to prevent TRS chief KCR from going towards NDA after the elections, if Congress-led UPA fails to win a good number of seats.

But according to sources, KCR has argued before AICC General Secretary in-charge of AP affairs Digvijay Singh, that if TRS has to merge with Congress, there will be a political vacuum in Telangana. And this vacuum will be filled by TDP and BJP.   

TRS wants a lion’s share of the spoils in Telangana following passage of T Bill in Parliament. KCR has reportedly demanded Chief Minister’s post and a slew of other sops for the party as pre-conditions for merger.

KCR had also put forward a list of demands for Telangana –including special status and other development packages, during his meetings with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

The two parties now seem to be involved in a game of ‘who blinks first’. With his assertion that KCR had agreed for a merger, Digvijay Singh has tried to hold sway over the sub-regional party. But KCR was prompt enough to deny that any talks on merger had taken place. 

Also, the public rally of KCR soon on his return from Delhi, from Begumpet to Gun Park, witnessed several party workers holding aloft placards that read “No Merger with Congress”.

And TRS chief is not in a hurry to take any decision. He wil convene a meeting of party MLAs, MPs and other leaders in the next two days. The planned rally in the first week of March in the city, may turn out to be the stage from where KCR will speak out his mind.

And what will happen to process of statehood once Congress and TRS part ways, is anybody’s guess.
