my old roommate was doctor.....I think they have USMLE exams to clear step 1.2.2 practical.3  after finishing exams they have to participate in residency application process through ERAS .....and Matching through NRMP.. Once they get the match they have to clear 3-4 yrs of residency(postgrad) then practice
