Thousands of people around the world are now devoting time to scour the search area using satellite images.

US firm DigitalGlobe owns one of the world's most advanced satellite networks.

It has posted satellite images of the search area online and is gathering a team of volunteers to search the area from their computers to look for the plane.

As reported by CNN, so many people have today attempted to join in the search that the firm's website crashed.
