Josh Posted March 14, 2014 Author Report Posted March 14, 2014 Chennai, 02 November, (Asiantribune.com): Andhra Pradesh Government has ordered for reconstructing the famous "Veyyi Kalla Mandapam" (Thousand Pillar Mandapam), in Tirupathi Lord Venkateswara Temple a 550 old structure demolished during Telugu Desam Party(TDP) ruling while Chandrababu Naidu was the Chief Minister. Present Congress Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, on Sunday gave orders for reconstructing Thousand-Pillar Mandapam. Mr Rosaiah, who held a meeting with the endowments minister, Mr Gade Venkata Reddy, and other higher officials, approved reconstruction of the old structure as per the 2005 resolution of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams and subsequent orders passed by the Andhra Pradesh High Court in 2007. In fact, the late chief minister YS Rajasekar Reddy(YSR) had set the foundation stone for the reconstruction which was to cost `10 crore in 2008. "The CM has decided to reconstruct the mandapam and accordingly the proposed site will be handed over to the contractor immediately to start the work," said Mr Venkata Reddy. The Veyyi Kaalla Mandapam was constructed in 1472 AD. The TTD performed sevas (rituals) there. In 1975, when the Tirumala -Tirupathi Devasthanam(TTD) Board came out with a master plan to accommodate the increasing number of pilgrims, the street in front of the mandapam, which was highly congested, needed to be widened, which required the mandapam to be shifted. In 2003, the TTD Board approved a proposal to shift the mandapam, and it was duly dismantled and reerected in the north-west corner of Mada Street. But some religious institutions and individuals protested the action and filed cases in the High Court. During YSR regime, the government-appointed P.V.R.K. Prasad Committee submitted a report recommending reconstruction of the mandapam at the same place after leaving 100 feet for a `No Structure Zone' in front of the temple. In 2005, the TTD Board approved the same and also informed the High Court which subsequently disposed of the writ petitions. Since then no significant progress was made to reconstruct the mandapam proposal re-erected In 2003, the TTD Board approved a proposal to shift the mandapam, and it was duly dismantled and re-erected in the north-west corner of Mada Street. http://www.asiantribune.com/news/2010/11/02/tirumala-tirupathi-ap-government-orders-reconstructs-%E2%80%9Cthousand-pillar-mandapam
