Steps
  1. 670px-Make-iPhone-Ringtones-on-a-PC-Step
    1
Find a music track that you want to create your ringtone from.

    Ad

  2. 670px-Make-iPhone-Ringtones-on-a-PC-Step
    2
Listen carefully to the track, and watch the timer carefully, to figure out the exact starting time and ending time of the portion you want to clip to make your ringtone. Remember, or write down, these times. Use a music player whose timer is precise to at least hundredths of a second, if possible; any music editing software, such asAudacity, will achieve this. Keep in mind that your ringtone can only be up to 40 seconds long.

  3. 670px-Make-iPhone-Ringtones-on-a-PC-Step
    3
Import the track into iTunes if it is not already there.

  4. 670px-Make-iPhone-Ringtones-on-a-PC-Step
    4
Right-click on the track in iTunes, and click "Get Info".

  5. 557px-Make-iPhone-Ringtones-on-a-PC-Step
    5
    Click on the "Options" tab.

  6. 563px-Make-iPhone-Ringtones-on-a-PC-Step
    6
Check the check boxes next to "Start Time" and "Stop Time", and fill in the times from above.

  7. 670px-Make-iPhone-Ringtones-on-a-PC-Step
    7
    Click "OK".

  8. 670px-Make-iPhone-Ringtones-on-a-PC-Step
    8
Right-click on the track again, and click "Create AAC version". The AAC version will appear directly after the original track in your iTunes playlist. Listen to the AAC track to make sure the correct portion of music was clipped. If too much or too little music was clipped, delete the AAC track and repeat the previous five steps, adjusting the "Start Time" and "Stop Time" values accordingly.

  9. 670px-Make-iPhone-Ringtones-on-a-PC-Step
    9
Once you have successfully clipped the appropriate portion of music, right-click on the AAC track, and click "Show in Windows Explorer".

  10. 670px-Make-iPhone-Ringtones-on-a-PC-Step
    10
Make sure your computer is configured to show file extensions. A Windows Explorer window will pop up, with the AAC clip highlighted. The file will be called <filename>.m4a. Right-click on the file, click "Rename", and replace ".m4a" with ".m4r". In the confirmation dialog that pops up, click "OK".

  11. 670px-Make-iPhone-Ringtones-on-a-PC-Step
    11
Drag-and-drop the new "m4r" file onto the "Library" section of the iTunes sidebar. It should automatically find its way into the "Ringtones" playlist. Click on "Ringtones" in the sidebar to make sure it is there.

  12. 670px-Make-iPhone-Ringtones-on-a-PC-Step
    12
Click on "Music" in the sidebar, and delete the AAC track from your iTunes music list (iTunes will not be able to find the track anyway, since you changed the file extension).

  13. 670px-Make-iPhone-Ringtones-on-a-PC-Step
    13
    Sync your iPhone with iTunes.

  14. 366px-Make-iPhone-Ringtones-on-a-PC-Step
    14
Once the syncing is complete, on your iPhone, go to Settings>Sounds>Ringtone. Your new ringtone should be shown, above the default ringtones, in a new list called "Custom" (on an iPhone 4/4S, the new ringtone will instead be in the same list as the default ringtones, separated by a bold line).
