I hope there are many SQL BI students in this forum.. How many of you know that you can use an SSIS package as a data source in an SSRS report? There is a very less chance you will get to work with such kind of situation in your entire career.

If you open BIDS and see for SSIS as a data source for pulling the data, you won't see anything...

so read this article, I wrote on How to enable SSIS to be used as a Data Source for SSRS. If you have any questions let me know...

bhayya oka Question: Where exactly this kind of scenario is used in SSRS, I understood that package can be added as DS but one can easily get that dataset from a SP or a simple query right? let know if I am not clear, also under realtime scenarios they wont allow you to add this extension. So konchem explain cheyyava ee situation its really interesting to add it...!!!

Good and Intelligent question cute boy pranav...

so why do we go for SSIS as data source when we can write a query or use a stored procedure from SQL Server / use MDX query and get data from a cube...

the answer is... always relational database and olap cube is not only ur database. May be you need to show data from an archived file where you need to do some manipulations (like may be fuzzy grouping, fuzzy lookup and many other transformations) and use after all those transformations... When you are dealing with 10 records, its good you do it the sql server way... But imagine if you have some good number of records to group in the report and all, you need a lot of time to stage it and then query it.. so to avoid such scenarios ppl use it.

Most of the times , yes we go with query / procedure... But some companies with constant real time data do go for this kind of approach... Yes it is not very well appreciated because the first time the package runs it takes good amount of time, than the other times it runs every day(if you have multiple times running in a single day)..

Hope that answers your question.. Inka emanna untey cheppu... Intaki sqlsaga ki like pettinava leda man...fvg4js.gif
