i think it has to do with kingdoms, LBS.

Chola empire was mostly Shaivaite. Pandya empire vaishnavite.

may be the king who built that temple for Muruga on top of Palani had something to do with propagating this god.

May be dravidian movement decided life of Muruga is close to the fate of BCs in TN, because they were denied fruits of economic growth by brahmins, just like Vigneshwara cheated Muruga off that 'knowledge fruit' from his parents. :)

they had a headstart, because of the caste system. ofcourse, earliest geniuses are overwhlemingly tamil brams. Two nobel prizes in sciences, one genius mathematician.. one nobel prize in science again recently.

they suffer from groupism the most among TN groups. Its incredibly hard to get into one. They'll know that you are not a brahmin, and will create a 1000 different ways to put you down :)

I studied in a very brahmin school, where half the class were sort of rebels. So no problems being friends with some of them.

attitudes have changed though. But somehow they end up everywhere. You have them in leadership position everywhere. from right wing parties, to communist parties, even in a few labour unions.

Dravidian movement clipped their wings for a large part. One major revolution that they could never be part of. Just listen to how Kamala Haasan sucks up Karunanidhi's dcik, but no one in DMK will care about KH.

these days they are not that special as they were when I was growing up. Most of the time top rankers, even IIT rankers from TN are not overwhelmingly brahmin.

Its a good thing. Dravidian revolution changed the face of TN. Mostly in a good way.

some of my tam bram friends spit on their caste. some of them keep making silly inside jokes that only brahmins can understand.

they are a bunch of weird people man. I'd say except for the guys who have left their beliefs and castes, the rest are confused, because there's not much future for a tam bram in TN in a few generations.

yeah, also most TN brams are now into entrepreneurship.

bunch of highly qualified MBAs, Lawyers from Ivy league schools.

soon you'll see bram faces on US tv a lot. and financial fraudsters too

Man dont get carried away by with questions on castism by SA guys, because caste is very big thing for people from SA. as far as I know , I dont think it is same thing in TN, otherwise Rajjinikanth would not have become a superstar in TN. I also know that people dont care about surnames.

Castism is very  very less in TN as compared to SA. let me know if I ma wrong.

I think you are wrong, man.

I can't compare with SA, although all my folks are from SA half S and half A. I don't know enough about those people.

I am sure that if you are in a brahmin group, you'll immediately be made to realise it. All their talk will revolve around their caste, rituals, inside jokes etc.

Other caste that are insular are devars (kingly), nadars (traders), vanniyars(no idea).

I'm not getting carried away. just trying to type my observations.

Tambrams are a truly interesting group man. Inspite of being in a variety of different fields from politics, to business, its very easy to pick  them out in a group. They are all alike in a certain way.

I am not sure Andhra, Seema casteists are half as organised as TamBrams.

I understand your point though.

Its dangerous to glorify any one caste. I won't do it again.

Although I dont think I was doing it this time too.
