Location USA - California, San Francisco Job Function Development Function Responsibilities As an engineer joining the Customer Centric Engineering Team, you will get an opportunity to work on a broad set of challenging customer-related issues which will require learning a wide range of technologies and components of the DLP product, to help improve the quality of the product and provide timely technical solutions to our customers.

The CCE team designs and develops product improvements in all areas of the DLP product: functional features, technical aspects (compliance with evolving RFCs, compatibility with 3rd party vendors and products such as operating systems, web browsers, mail clients, proxy servers, web and mail servers, file servers..), performance and scalability aspects, reliability and robustness, supportability, manageability.

You will work with the largest customer deployments on the planet that each include up to 300K+ DLP endpoint agents and 100s of DLP servers running on cutting-edge hardware and VMs, tackling the most complex software challenges.

Responsibilities:

• Handling and resolution of Symantec DLP customer engineering escalations, by mapping reported problems to source code and software design/architecture.
• Design and development of software improvements and new components, providing best-in-class technical solutions to customer-reported problems while maintaining coherence and synergy with main line feature developments
• Interfacing closely with main line development, product management, QA, automation and documentation teams, as well as technical support and customers with primary intent of making the product of higher quality Qualifications • 5+ years of Java and C++ programming and debugging experience, including multi-threading and IPC, in both Windows and Linux environments. MAC OS C++ development experience is a plus.
• Proven ability to read, analyze, and understand large amounts of existing code and software design. Strong experience with algorithms and data structures.
• Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills, including analyzing logs and memory dumps, and using various debugging tools and techniques
• Scripting language knowledge (Python, Perl, Unix Shell) as well as regular expressions in a plus
• Excellent communications skills
• Fast learner, must be able to handle multiple tasks at a time, and with little direct supervision
• Must be a team player and enjoy working on all aspects of product development including design, research/proof of concept, coding, debugging and testing
• BSCS or related degree required. MSCS preferred
