A boy in an unidentified location in Uttar Pradesh who has a 12-inch-long braid of thick hair growing from his back is worshipped as a reincarnation of Lord Hanumana, reported India Today.

According to a Daily Mail report, six-year-old Amar Singh, resident of one Nijmapur village in an unidentified district, is treated as Lord Hanuman and is worshipped by the locals.

The family says that the boy was born with a patch of hair which has been growing ever since. Even though the family has an option of shaving the hair from Amar's back, they consider it as a 'gift of god'.

In medical terminology, this hair growth is called Spina bifida, i.e. split spine.

Spina bifida is commonly known as a disabling birth defect which means split spine. It happens when the bones of the spine (vertebrae) do not form properly around part of the baby's spinal cord. This can lead to hair growth from the back if not removed surgically. This happens during first month embryo's development.

In severe cases, this could lead to paralysis, learning difficulties.
