24-Year-Old Woman Sets Husband Ablaze For Having Dark Complexion

#Bhind #Madhya Pradesh A woman identified as Chameli allegedly set her husband ablaze because she did not like his dark complexion.

The incident took place in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday when 24-year-old Chameli Devi sprinkled kerosene on her husband Jagram Rathod when he was sleeping and set him on fire before he could understand what was happening.

According to the police, she fled from the spot to escape getting caught. Meanwhile, the neighbours heard Jagram shouting and rushed to save him. After dousing the fire, they took him to the hospital, however, Jagram had succumbed to his injuries by that time.

Jagram's parents alleged that Chameli took the step because she did not like his dark skin colour. She had got married to Jagram under tremendous pressure from her family.

"Chameli would often get embarrassed when people would make fun of her husband's skin colour and she felt they didn't make a perfect couple as he didn't match her complexion. She also felt that Rathod could never be able to give her a luxurious life," said police.

The couple have two children.

Chameli was later arrested but during interrogation, she denied her role in the incident saying she was being falsely implicated by her in-laws. However, she was caught later as her husband clearly took her name before dying. She has been booked for murder.
