me too.. I prefer mindless Godzilla movies to District 9.

but I like District 9 type movies when I'm alone and absolutely bored.

So i guess, you feel the same about Nolan's films like dark knight, inception

D9, Elysium were both politically loaded movies.

 

D9 was even set in apartheid South Africa. 

 

May be you like serious sci fi movies compared to light hearted ones.

Yaa but they are super hero movies who has fan following, the casting is good and advertisement is good. But pacific rim doesn't have any of those.

Pacific rim is a huge blockbuster outside US.
Just that the US audience are dumbed down to enjoy only comic book films.
Seriuisly, its about time US audience reject the superhero films. No one is doing original films any more.
