Early trends: TDP giving jitters to YSRC

For those, who thought the YSR Congress party was down and out after the outcome of the municipal and local body elections, the Assembly and Lok Sabha election results have come as a big surprise.

Going by the early trends, it is pretty evident that the YSR Congress party is virtually making the Telugu Desam Party a run for its money. Both the parties are running in neck and neck race, tbough the TDP appears to be having a slight edge. According to latest reports, TD is ahead in 82 Assembly seats, compared to 71 of the TDP. And trends have to come from many more YSRC strongholds.

Contrary to the expectations that the TDP would sweep the polls from Srikakulam to Guntur – an assessment based on the local body results, the YSR Congress party made inroads into the TDP bastions in Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam districts, causing jitters in the TDP camp.

In Lok Sabha seats, too, the YSRC is ahead in 13 MP seats, compared to 11 of the TDP. YSRC honorary president Y S Vijayalakshmi, mother of party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, is forging ahead in Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency.
