MP-elect from Visakhapatnam and BJP Andhra Pradesh president K. Haribabu has reached out to the voters to thank them personally for electing him.

Walking on the Beach Road on Sunday morning, he interacted with a cross section of people. He was accompanied by party city unit president P.V. Narayana Rao, State Executive member M. Nagender, Finance Committee member Cheruvu Ramakotaiah, among others.

He listened to the people’s suggestions patiently and explained to them how he would go about the task.

Railway zone

Some of the walkers wanted a new railway zone with headquarters in the city. Mr. Haribabu explained that the new zone for the State was a certainty. But, as an advocate of decentralised development, Mr. Haribabu said he would not want it here if the city was to be made the capital of the State.

He promised to bring to the city all possible projects sponsored by the Centre, and said a few other projects would require the support of the State government. He was confident that the proactive government under the leadership of TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu in the State would support him in launching the projects in the city.

Mr. Haribabu said he would take immediate steps to make VIMS fully functional and also impress upon the Central and State governments to establish a super speciality hospital here.

Infrastructure

He promised to accord priority to development of infrastructure like six-laning the National Highway and building flyovers on it to clear the bottlenecks, and try to get them completed in the next three-four years.

In view of the deep sea fishing becoming unviable with rising costs of fuel and other material, Mr. Haribabu said he would try to impress upon the government to promote tuna fishing to give a fillip to the industry.

Later, he received visitors from a cross section, including old colleagues in Andhra University and other prominent citizens, at his residence.

Chairman and Managing Director of RINL P. Madhusudhan also called on him.
