Tuesday Marks One Year Anniversary Of Moore, Oklahoma Tornado

MOORE, Oklahoma -

On May 20, 2013, thousands of lives in the metro were changed forever when an EF-5 tornado touched down. It left a trail of destruction starting in Newcastle, then moved to south Oklahoma City and Moore.

The tornado was on the ground for 40 minutes. Twenty five people lost their lives, including several children. Hundreds of homes and businesses were destroyed, causing billions in damage.

A remembrance ceremony will be held Tuesday morning at what once was the Moore Medical Center. State and city leaders will gather before the groundbreaking of the new Moore Medical Center. The previous building was heavily damaged in the storm.

The ceremony will start at 10 a.m. and bells will chime at 10:05 a.m. to remember the lives lost. The ceremony will end with a special blessing by the chaplain of Norman Regional.

At 11 a.m., the ground breaking will take place.
