For example if you go to google finance site, for this stock DSW. you will see Div/Yield= 0.19/3.18 Stock price is 23.62$ So 23.62 * (3.18/100)= 0.75$ or 75 cents. If you buy one stock of DSW, the company returns 3.18% of the stock price or 75 cents every year to the stock holder. As you know there are four quarters every year. So each quarter 0.75/4=0.18$ or approx 0.19$ each quarter returned to the stock holder
