In three years, Temple Run users have collectively spent 216,018 years running a whopping 50 trillion meters.

The fast-paced Temple Run game has sprinted into mobile users' hearts, and the record books: Game developer Imangi Studios today announced a milestone 1 billion app downloads.

Following its 2011 launch, the Temple Run series (which includes the original title and its sequel) joins the ranks of Rovio's uber popular Angry Birds, which surpassed the 1 billion mark more than two years ago.

"It's honestly kind of crazy," Imangi Studios co-founder Keith Shepherd told PCMag. "When we started out, we couldn't have dreamed of hitting a billion downloads. Now, it's being played around the world, and it's amazing to see how much players love the game and want to keep playing. We're proud to be standing next to Angry Birds."

In three years, Temple Run users have collectively spent 216,018 years playing more than 32 billion games—in total, running a whopping 50 trillion meters while dodging obstacles and collecting coins.
